Technology is bringing abundance to the world. But, only a handful of people start the iconic companies with the biggest impact. Floodgate backs these Prime Movers before the rest of the world believes.
Taking risk with these legendary founders at the very beginning of their journeys is core to our DNA and how we add unique value as an investment partner.
When Steve Blank sent FLOODGATE Partner Ann Miura-Ko a bunch of math papers about “topological data analysis,” she immediately hunted down Gurjeet Singh to see if he was ready to start a company based on his team’s research.
At the time, Gurjeet had not raised money for Ayasdi and Ann was new to FLOODGATE. But she grabbed a check from Mike Maples’ desk, made it out to Ayasdi for $1 Million, and stood outside of Gurjeet’s class. She said to him, “I would die if you took money from anyone else.”
It took 9 months to convince Gurjeet to take that first $1 Million, even though $100 Million of subsequent investment would follow from the most celebrated firms in Silicon Valley.
